Overview
Electric motors sit in an unusual position for Saudi conformity because they are driven by both electrical safety and energy efficiency at the same time. The certificate has to show the motor is electrically safe — insulation, earthing, temperature rise and protection — and, for the power ratings Saudi Arabia regulates, that it reaches the required minimum efficiency (IE) class. Because motors consume a very large share of industrial electricity in the Kingdom, the efficiency side is examined as closely as the safety side.
Electric motors fall under the SABER conformity scheme. A Product Certificate of Conformity (PCoC) is required for the motor range, and a Shipment Certificate of Conformity (SCoC) is required for each consignment before it can clear Saudi customs. Testing / Standards
Electric motors are typically evaluated against the applicable IEC standards for rotating machines. Typical verification includes:
